Westersingel Bridge
Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 2015

This narrow bridge replaces an old foot bridge crossing the Westersingel canal, opposite the Kortenaerstraat in the centre of Rotterdam. We aimed for the new bridge to insert itself naturally in this historical context by choosing long-lasting and honest materials. The deck consists of baked bricks and the balusters are made of untreated brass. Both materials interlock at the base of the deck. The fanned shape of the bridge follows the natural movement of pedestrians.
