The goal of the competition Duik in de Dijk was to find ideas on how the Oostzeedijk could regain a strong identity. A connection of the tranquil and luxuriant qualities of the eastern part of the dike with the vibrant urban qualities of its western part resulted in a 1.5 km long rhododendron strip offering a green dike all year around with a spectacular blossom in spring. Along the dike a lively street scene can develop where small shops, ateliers, and cafés can take advantage of their new lush setting.
