For the 18th Garden Festival of Chaumont-sur-Loire with as given theme Gardens of Colour, a rebellious garden could be visited where only black and white flowering plants formed a large meadow with a gradient from dark to light. M. C. Escher’s drawing Sky and Water forms the base for the layout of the planting plan composed of 12 pairs of plants where each white plant has a black ‘cousin’.
