MVRDV designed a masterplan for a dense back-to-back row housing area where each owner would be responsible for the design and construction of their own house, resulting in a very diverse district. A competition for the individual houses was then launched to inspire potential buyers. In Earth House all rooms are connected through generous staircases. The movement through the house is like a spiral going from the most public to the most private space. The façade is built out of local rammed earth that crystallises through rainfall.
